We are always keen to receive applications from players interested in joining the Phil’s orchestra. Come and join us for a unique opportunity experience to play in an orchestra celebrating its 150th Anniversary!

In particular we are currently, Autumn 2012, especially interested in hearing from string section players in the following disciplines:

Violins – First (forward desks), and also Second. Ideally we would like to build both sections up to full compliment of 16 players each.

The second half of this concert consisted of the music from Act Two of Tchaikovsky‘s Nutcracker ballet – possibly the most familiar sequence of much-loved melodies and instrumental colourations in the entire repertoire.

The musical forces of the Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra and the Huddersfield Choral Society combine to bring you a spectacular celebratory concert, featuring the most chosen Desert Island Discs piece, an anthem composed for George II’s coronation, and a world premiere. Conductor Nicholas Smith takes the baton to the podium for the performance.

An afternoon performance, starting at 3pm, this is a concert of film music that the whole family can enjoy, compered by our friend of the Phil Robert Powell, most recently of ‘Holby City’ fame. Robert narrated our “Peter and the Wolf” in 2008, which can still be seen on YouTube. The venue on 5th June 2011 is once again in the magnificent setting afforded at Huddersfield Town Hall.
