In particular we are currently, Autumn 2011, especially interested in hearing from string section players in the following disciplines:
Violins – First (forward desks), and also Second. Ideally we would like to build both sections up to full compliment of 16 players each.
Viola’s
Double Basses (ideally to achieve a full compliment of 4 to 5)

I am currently the leader of the Viola section at Wakefield Youth Orchestra. I was wondering if there is any grade requirements for applying to be part of the Viola section at Huddersfield Orchestra?

Thank you for your interest in the orchestra. I have just posted our rehearsal schedule for the coming season on the site, so you will see that rehearsals start next Tuesday. We anticipate having vacancies for viola players this season, so it would be great if you came along to meet us. We usually look to have as many string players playing at grade 8 as possible, but that’s a guideline rather than a requirement!

Dear Elena,
Thank you for your interest in the orchestra.
I should first of all say that, whilst we aspire to professional standards of performance, we are not a professional orchestra. We are an amateur organisation and the majority of our members pay a membership fee to be part of the orchestra.
Having said that, we do also call upon a number of additional players from time to time, especially for those instruments not routinely included in orchestral scores. Our flute section is currently full, although we do sometimes need additional players and we shall need a pianist during our next season, so it would be good to have some discussion about your situation.
Can I suggest that if you e-mail us at info@huddersfield-phil.org.uk we can explore matters further? That way I can include relevant section principals in the process as per our usual arrangements.

I acieved a Diploma at the Moscow Academy of Music in Orchestral Performance.
At the age of 24 I relocated to Cyprus where I played both the piano and flute professionally in several 5* Hotels. I met my husband whilst living there and following our marriage I now reside in wakefield with him and my family.
I have performed at several private recitals and enjoyed the challenge of each individual one.
I would very much appreciate the chance to join a professional orchesta and wondered if you may consider me if there are any current vacancies.
